Additives

_____________________________

There are many additives on the market today for the automotive world , most of which are to enhance the operation of some part or system of the automobile . The most important thing to remember about additives is to make sure that the one you choose for use in your automobile is safe to be used in that automobile , before you buy it . Some additives may be compatible with some vehicles but not for other vehicles . Also some additives may be compatible for gasoline engines but not for diesel engines or vice versa . Read the application on any product before you buy it . If you have any doubts or are not sure of an additive , ask the manufacturer of your vehicle , the dealers , or a mechanic that you trust if that product is compatible with your vehicle . Before you buy it . Also ask if it is recommended for your vehicle . In some cases of a problem with your vehicle , make sure that the product you choose is the right one to help cure the problem you are buying it for , before you buy it . The most popular additives are fuel additives . These are used to help clean the fuel system parts , such as the fuel injectors , fuel pump , fuel lines , and in some cases even the engine

cylinders .

Use of fuel additives in engines from time to time is a very good idea . Fuel Additives will help to keep engine parts clean and operating properly . Some fuel additives claim to clean carbon from the valves and pistons . In proper application , these can also be of benefit , specially to vehicles that are driven mainly at lower speeds (city driving) .

Gas line antifreeze is a very popular additive for use in cold weather . Though winter gasoline blends do have gas line antifreeze in them , it is still not a bad idea to use gas line antifreeze in extremely cold weather . The changes in temperature from day to night causes condensation (water) in the fuel tank and lines . If water freezes in fuel lines it will block the fuel from flowing and the will run very poorly or even , not run at all . Gas line antifreeze will not let the water freeze , and will help to cause water to evaporate from the fuel system .

Diesel additives can also help to keep fuel injectors and other fuel system parts clean . Some diesel additives also help to lubricate the fuel injectors , injector pumps and other parts . Auto makers and diesel engine manufacturers Do recommend the use of proper ‘Diesel’ fuel additives for Diesel Engines .

Transmission additives are common . Some of these are good to keep seals moist in older vehicles , or in vehicles that are not driven regularly and sit for long periods of time . A car that is stored for the winter would be one example of this . On a regularly driven vehicle , transmission services are best .

In limited slip or posi-track differentials (in rear wheel drive vehicles) a special limited slip additives must be used . This special additive is put into all differentials with these options , from the factory . If these types of differential do Not have the additive or do Not have enough of it , there will be a vibration or chatter from the rear of the vehicle when turning corners or on curves . If your vehicle were to develop this problem , adding this additive would be the very first step , to rectify the problem . This same additive when used in a manual transmission will often make them easier and smoother to shift gears . Cooling system additives are often recommended , as some of them will help to keep the water pump lubricated and will also help to keep seals from drying out and leaking . Some cooling systems will also help to prevent leaks or even stop minor leaks after they have started .

Cooling system services every two or three years will help to eliminate cooling system problems and the expense of repairing them .

Before using any automotive additive , be sure to read all the application information and be very sure that it is compatible with your vehicle before you by or use it !
