“”Buick Automobile””

David Buick founded the Buick Motor Company in May of 1902 and the company was re named the Buick Motor Company

David Buick sold the Buick Motor Company in 1904 to James Whiting , who hired William Durant to manage the company . David Buick , during his time with Buick Motor Company , is credited with the invention of the overhead valve engine .

Under the management of William Durant , Buick became the largest selling automobile of that time period in USA . Durant and Buick formed an alliance with McLaughlin Motor Company of Oshawa Ontario (Canada) , to build McLaughlin-Buick Automobiles in Canada . The Buick Motor Company would eventually become the first automobile company of the General Motors Corporation . General Motors bought the McLaughlin Motor Company of Oshawa and it became General Motors of Canada . Buick is now the mid-luxury automobile of General Motors and also manufactures the Saturn line of automobiles that replaced the Oldsmobile .

“”Bricklin Automobiles””
The Bricklin Motor Company was opened in St John New Brunswick in 1974 by Malcolm Bricklin , the founder of Subaru of America . The only Bricklin Model ever made was the Gull Wing SV-1 which first used an AMC 360 engine but then switched to the Ford 351 Winsor engine .

The SV was for Safety Vehicle . In 1975 the company went into receivership and a liquidator from Ohio bought all the parts and the partly built vehicles and the were finished and sold as 1976 models .

Brush Automobile””

The Brush Motor Car Company operated from 1910 to 1913 and was founded by Alanson Brush . The main contribution Brush gave to the auto industry was an engine that turned counter-clockwise when it ran . Other early auto engines turned clockwise . Before the use of electric starters , engine were started by hand cranking . Right-handed people received many injuries if the clockwise engine kicked with the crank still engaged . Counter-clockwise engines would kick the crank away from the hand . Counter-clockwise is now the normal direction of rotation (when facing from the front) for most internal combustion engines . Some special applications such as some boat motors my rotate in either direction depending on the application !

“”Cadillac Automobile””

After Henry Ford sold the Henry Ford Company and departed , the company hired Henry Leland to run the company . The company name had to be changed as part of the deal when Henry Ford sold his share of it . The name Cadillac was chosen after the founder of Detroit . The designs that Henry Ford had left behind were use by Henry Leland to build the first Cadillac Automobile ,(which looked very much like Henrys Model A Ford ).

Henry Leland Merged his Leland and Faulconer Manufacturing Company with the Cadillac Motor Company in 1905

The Cadillac Motor Company was purchased by William Durant and General Motors in 1909 ,and became the top luxury car division of GM . Cadillac Motor Company became the top Luxury car division of General Motors Corporation .

In 1910 Cadillac offered the first fully enclosed body and in 1912 introduced the electric starter . Thermostatic engine temperature control , all steel roof , fully synchronized manual transmissions , and automatic transmission , balanced engines , and safety glass were some of the firsts for Cadillac automobiles . In 1914 Cadillac introduced the first V8 engine . Cadillac was also the first to use hydraulic valve lifters , in there engines , first in the V16 of 1930 and in then their V12 in 1931 .

“”Chalmers Automobile””

The Chalmers Motor Car Company came into being after Hugh Chalmers took control of the Thomas-Detroit Automobile company in 1907 . Some time after buying a large share of the company , Chalmers changed the name of the company to the Chalmers-Detroit Motor Company . Eventually the Detroit was removed and the company became the Chalmers Motor Company . Chalmers automobiles were big sellers and peaked with sales of about 20,000 in 1915 . In 1920 sales declined and in 1922 Chalmers merged with the Maxwell Motor Company to become the Maxwell-Chalmers Motor Company .

The Maxwell-Chalmers Motor Company was taken over by Walter Chrysler and was the beginning of what became the Chrysler Corporation .
