The Dodge Brothers were noted to be the best machinists in the business in the early 1900s . They were the largest auto parts maker in the USA . They made parts for other companies at first . Olds was a big customer and Ford was by far their biggest parts contract . Their reputation was so good that when the Dodge Brothers Motor Vehicle Company was founded in 1913 over 20.000 business men “applied” for Dodge dealerships . The first car came of the assembly line in 1914 (named “Old Betsy”) and by 1916 Dodge Brothers automobiles were “Second” in sales (only to Ford) and remained there until 1920 .
