The Jeep Renegade is powered by two 268 horsepower electric motors . It has a 3 cylinder diesel engine to drive a generator to recharge the batteries .

There are two Hydrogen systems . One is the use hydrogen as a fuel for an internal combustion engine , in place of gasoline . The other system is the hydrogen fuel cell , which uses the reaction between Hydrogen and Oxygen the produce Electricity to actually power the vehicle .

These are some examples of how much experimenting the auto makers do , to bring you new automobiles and keep up with the times .

This Nuclear Powered concept was unveiled by Ford in 1957 Nuclear power is possibly a fuel of the very distant future , but would likely be a very difficult idea to sell to governments and the public .

The North American automakers are far ahead of the fuel companies and governments with the production of ethanol vehicles . The vehicles are ready but the fuel is not readily available in very many places yet .

Hydrogen is another future fuel . The North American auto makers have hydrogen powered (zero emission) vehicles ready to go but the fuelling facilities are not in place yet

The Ford Interceptor uses a 5.0 liter 400 horsepower engine that will run on E85 Ethanol .

Ethanol is a type of alcohol and is a future fuel that is being manufactured and used today . It has been used mixed with gasoline for over 20 years , starting with about a 10% Ethanol to 90 % gasoline mixture . Some E85 ready vehicles are on the road in North America now and E100 Ethanol is coming . E85 is 85% Ethanol and 15 % gasoline while E100 IS 100% Ethanol . Ethanol is manufactured from mainly from corn in North America and from Sugar Cane in some other parts of the world . Henry Ford suggested potato’s as a source for Ethanol and even designed his Model T to run on Ethanol .

This Model ‘U’ is a very futuristic vehicle the uses a 4 cylinder internal combustion supercharged engine that runs on Hydrogen . This is how all vehicles will likely be built in the near and distant future . The model U is as close to ‘totally’ environmentally friendly as it is possible to get .
