Lubrication Service

A Lubrication Service (also called an oil change service) is the most common service recommended and done on an automobile . Most often an oil change service is recommended at 3,000 mile (5,000 km) intervals or less . For low mileage vehicles this service is normally recommended every 6 months .

On a lubrication service the engine oil and the engine oil filter are replaced . It is very important that the proper viscosity oil is used in today’s engines . If an oil that is to high in viscosity is used (eg 10w30 when 5w30 is specified) a lack of lubrication on cold start can result and premature engine failure may occur . Newer engine have smaller clearances and require thinner oil .

On this service the steering and chassis components are lubricated as needed . At this time the tire pressures should be checked and corrected as needed . Tire pressure can very with temperature change (summer to winter etc) and gradual air seepage from tires is also common over time and with mileage driven .

Tire condition should also be checked and any problems should be reported to you .

The transmission fluid level and condition should be checked as well as the differential fluid on rear wheel vehicles .

All lights should be checked for proper operation .

A visual inspection of the vehicle should also be done with special attention to the underside for any possible fluid leaks or road damage etc .

The operation of all door , trunk and hood latches and hinges should be checked and lubricated as needed . Do not allow the use of white grease products on your vehicle as they tend to attract dirt and cause latches to stick (open?).

It is normal at this time for an oil sticker to be attached to the vehicle to help you keep track of when your vehicle is due for service . If all the above is not being done when you get your vehicle serviced , I recommend changing to a shop that does it all .

Is all the above is done on this service it will help to avoid problems and breakdowns when driving .
